What is Wisdom Teeth Removal?
Your wisdom teeth will normally begin to come in when you’re roughly 17 to 25 years old. You might have been told by numerous dentists in the past that you’ll need to have your wisdom teeth removed. Unfortunately, leaving these wisdom teeth in place, especially if there is not enough room for them to come in, can leave you in pain and severe discomfort. We are able to remove any and all problematic wisdom teeth to help preserve your overall dental and oral health.
Why would Wisdom Teeth Removal be needed?
When a wisdom tooth isn’t able to come up through the gums, it becomes impacted. Impacted wisdom teeth can be painful, tender and even cause issues with infection and damage to surrounding teeth. Removing these teeth can help to prevent major problems from happening down the road. It is better to have these wisdom teeth removed as soon as possible, but it’s not uncommon for patients to wait years before having them extracted.

Who is a candidate for Wisdom Teeth Removal?
We will be able to find your wisdom teeth on a special x-ray. This image allows us to see where your wisdom teeth are and how they’re positioned. From there, we will create a specific extraction treatment plan that is right for you. It is never too soon or too late to have these often problematic third molars removed.
What happens during Wisdom Teeth Removal?
We will begin by offering you local or general sedation. This will help to make the extraction process more comfortable for you. We then make an incision through the gums and retrieve the underlying wisdom tooth. If the wisdom tooth is embedded into the bone, we will cut slightly into this bone in order to remove it. This is what is known as a bony impaction, and it is very common. The process of removing the wisdom teeth is repeated until they are all taken out. Sutures are placed to heal the gums and you’ll go home with aftercare instructions.

Why Choose A Specialist?
Preston Hansen
DDS
Hello! My name is Preston Hansen, and I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. My passion is reconstruction and restoration. After receiving my undergraduate degree from the University of Utah, I attended dental school at the prestigious University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco. I then went on to a formal 4 year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency program at UCSF Fresno where I received the most rigorous surgical training available for dentists. In fact, there were no other residencies for head and neck services where I trained. So, I played the role of ENT, plastic surgeon, and oral surgeon for all emergency needs.
My oral and maxillofacial surgery training gave me the opportunity to treat countless individuals who had suffered serious deformity from experiences such as trauma, cancer, and other pathologies. Not only did these patients need their diseases treated, they needed their jaws and faces rebuilt and restored. The most satisfying part for me was reconstructing beautiful smiles and functioning teeth. This aspect of treatment, restoring someone’s smile, has had the biggest impact on my life. Being able to smile confidently and eat the food you want is an incredibly important part of feeling whole and enjoying life.
