Dentures & Partials

What are Dentures & Partials?

Prosthetic appliances, like dentures and partials, are designed to help replace missing teeth. When worn properly, your denture can enhance your appearance and make eating, chewing and speaking a lot easier. These appliances are designed for each individual patient for a comfortable, reliable fit. Your denture is durable, and it can be expected to last for nearly a decade with the proper care and storage.

Why are Dentures & Partials needed?

When you are missing many or all of your teeth, it can be downright impossible to enjoy your life. You might find it difficult to chew and eat, and your face may even begin to look sunken-in. Patients who have gum disease may currently have loose, decayed teeth that need to be removed. In this case, the teeth are extracted and a full denture made to benefit the patient.

Who is a candidate for Dentures & Partials?

Patients who have many of their own healthy teeth but are missing enough that it is affecting their quality of life will benefit from a partial denture. The partial denture clips onto the surrounding teeth to stay in place. Patients who are missing all of their teeth or who need to have their remaining teeth extracted can benefit from a full denture. The full denture sits comfortably in the mouth and replaces everything that you’re currently missing.

How are Dentures & Partials made and placed?

To begin the prosthetic fabrication process, we take impressions of your mouth. These custom impressions are used to craft your very own denture or partial. You will come back in after about two weeks to have the denture fitted. We make minor adjustments, as needed, and then teach you how to care for the appliance. In order to keep the denture looking its best, it is important to clean it daily and store it safely away from small children and pets. If your denture cracks, breaks or loses a tooth at any time, be sure to come into our office to have it either repaired or replaced.
