What is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge is a restoration that is specifically designed to replace one or more missing teeth. If you’re missing a tooth, it can be difficult for you to feel confident in your appearance. You might be having issues with the surrounding teeth beginning to shift, which can become a problem for you over time. Bridges offer cosmetic and restorative benefits to all patients.
Why might a Dental Bridge be needed?
The reason you might need a new dental bridge is because you are missing a tooth. Rather than wear a removable appliance, like a partial, or having to undergo dental implant surgery, the bridge is placed as a way to replace what is missing. Bridges can easily last for many years without showing signs of wear. The bridge is made to mimic the way that your natural teeth look and feel.
Who is a candidate for Dental Bridge work?
To determine if a full dental bridge is needed, we’ll examine your teeth. If you’re missing a tooth, we might recommend a bridge if an implant cannot be placed. You can expect the new bridge to last for many years without the need for replacement. If you have an older bridge that’s showing signs of wear, we will recommend that it be replaced with a new restoration.
What happens during the Dental Bridge procedure?
We first file down the two teeth surrounding the missing tooth. This makes more than enough room for the bridge to sit on top. You will then have impressions taken so that a permanent bridge can be made for you. We work to get the bridge as natural-looking as possible so that it can benefit your smile. A second visit into the office allows us to fit the bridge over the surrounding teeth. The middle portion of the bridge sits over the gums and replaces the tooth that is currently missing. You can brush your new bridge and floss around it carefully as you would your other restorations.
